Spending hours on Canva trying to make your posts look good? Still getting minimal engagement? You’re not alone. I work with fitness coaches and gym owners every single week who are making the same mistake: they’re treating social media graphics like an afterthought.
Why Graphics Actually Matter
People scroll fast. You’ve got maybe half a second to stop them. A wall of text won’t do it. A generic stock photo won’t do it. You need graphics that make people stop, read, and engage.
But here’s what I see constantly: coaches putting out graphics that look like everyone else’s. Same fonts. Same layouts. Same boring carousel posts that nobody swipes through.
The Real Problem With DIY Graphics
I’m not saying you can’t make decent graphics in Canva. But when you’re trying to run a business, coach clients, create content, and do everything else, spending five hours on a single carousel post isn’t sustainable.
One of my clients messaged me recently saying they’d spent five hours trying to put together one graphic. Five hours. That’s insane. That’s time they could have spent coaching clients or actually growing their business.
What Actually Performs Well Right Now
Storytelling is working better than anything else on social media right now. But it needs to look professional. It needs to flow. It needs to be easy to read and visually engaging.
The fitness industry is especially guilty of putting out content that’s just not engaging. I see the same grunge logos, the same basic posts, the same content that everyone else is doing.
If your graphics look the same as everyone else’s, why would anyone follow you instead of them?
The Subscription Model That Actually Makes Sense
This is why I created Always On Time. It’s a subscription service for social media graphics. You get three graphics a week, every two weeks, or monthly, depending on what you need.
Here’s how it works: you submit what you want through a Google Drive folder. You give me your images, your text, your branding. I create the graphics. That’s it.
No spending hours in Canva. No trying to figure out what fonts work together. No stress about whether it looks professional enough.
What Makes a Good Social Media Graphic
After creating hundreds of graphics for fitness professionals, I can tell you exactly what works:
Clean, Modern Design
Your graphics need to look current. Not like something from 2015. Clean layouts, modern fonts, and a consistent style that people recognize as yours.
Easy to Read
If someone can’t read your carousel while scrolling, they won’t stop. Keep text minimal. Make it scannable. Use hierarchy to guide their eye.
On Brand
Every graphic should feel like it came from you. Consistent colors, consistent style, consistent vibe. This builds recognition and trust over time.
The Content That’s Working Right Now
Educational content works because it shows you know what you’re talking about. Client transformation stories work because they’re proof. Behind-the-scenes content works because it’s authentic.
But all of this needs to be packaged in graphics that actually look good. A great story told through ugly graphics won’t perform.
Tapping Into What’s Working
I track what’s performing well across all my fitness clients. Right now, peptides are huge. Storytelling about client journeys is working. Educational posts about specific pain points are getting saved and shared.
But trends change. What works today might not work in six months. The key is staying on top of what’s current and adjusting your content accordingly.
The Time vs Quality Trade-Off
You can spend hours trying to make decent graphics yourself, or you can delegate it and spend that time on what you’re actually good at: coaching clients.
Every hour you spend fighting with Canva is an hour you’re not spending growing your business. That’s the real cost of DIY graphics.
What Clients Actually Want to See
When I work with new clients, I always ask them to screenshot posts they like. Not just from fitness accounts. From any accounts. This gives me an idea of what they’re drawn to visually.
Then I take their content, their images, their stories, and package them in a way that actually stops the scroll.
The Reality of Social Media in 2024
Posting consistently matters. But posting consistently with mediocre graphics won’t get you anywhere. You need both: consistency and quality.
The algorithm rewards engagement. If your posts aren’t getting saved, shared, and commented on, they’re not being shown to more people. Simple as that.
Making Graphics Work for Your Business
Your social media should be bringing in clients. If it’s not, something’s wrong. Often, it’s not the content itself. It’s how it’s being presented.
Good graphics make good content great. They make people stop, read, and take action. That’s the difference between posting into the void and actually growing your following.
If you’re serious about social media, treat your graphics like the marketing material they are. Either invest the time to get really good at it, or delegate it to someone who already is.
