Harcon Solutions

Harcon Solutions are a specialist consultancy for construction, engineering and the railway, trading since 2017 with over 50 years of combined experience between them. Their old WordPress site looked the part but made people work to get in touch. We rebuilt it from scratch on their own look: 24 pages, Railway Asset Protection first, an enquiry form on every service page, and every old link still landing in the right place.

The challenge.

  1. The old site looked the part. Navy, teal and their own photos of their own people on site. Where it fell short was the route through it.

  2. On a laptop screen the Contact Us button in the hero sat cut in half by the bottom of the screen, and the freephone number was six screens down and in the footer.

  3. The services were two columns of paragraphs ending in plain underlined links, so a visitor had to read their way to the right one.

  4. Railway Asset Protection is their best performing page, so its address had to stay exactly as it was. And the words are theirs: every page they signed off went in word for word, with no dashes anywhere, because they asked for none.

Our approach.

  1. Railway Asset Protection leads everywhere. First in the menu, first in the services, and still on the exact page address Google already knows.

  2. The phone number sits in the header on every page, with email and LinkedIn in a strip above it. On a phone, Call, Email and Talk to Harcon stay pinned to the bottom of the screen.

  3. The homepage asks what you are looking to achieve and splits their work into four areas: railway interface, construction and engineering assurance, CDM and governance, and railway industry assurance. Each one goes straight to its page.

  4. A three column services menu: railway, construction and engineering on one side, systems, assurance and support on the other, and a not sure which service panel with the number to ring.

  5. Seven service pages, each with a bar that jumps to the part you need, from does this apply to the FAQs, and an enquiry form that stays beside the content the whole way down. Asking a question never costs a click.

  6. Four case studies and their clients' reviews, in their own words, with the long ones folded behind Read more.

  7. Every enquiry lands in their inbox as a branded email with Reply and Call buttons, and a copy is kept on the website under Edit Site, so none can be lost to a junk folder.

  8. Built as a custom WordPress plugin with a locked editor, no page builder. They change words and photos without touching the design, and every page in the editor shows a green, amber or red light for where it sits in Google.

  9. Moved over without losing anything. The 15 old page addresses point to their new pages, the old PDFs still open at their old addresses, the www address stayed, and Search Console and the sitemap were set up on launch day. Their RISQS accreditation guide was restyled to match and now lives on guide.harconsolutions.co.uk.
